Our client is building the technology foundation behind a rapidly expanding financial platform spanning payments, fintech infrastructure, and consumer-facing digital experiences. As the business scales, the engineering team is responsible for evolving the core systems that support increasing product complexity, transaction volume, and customer demand.
We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer with a strong backend background who is comfortable taking ownership across the stack. The majority of your work will center around Python-based services, APIs, integrations, databases, and cloud infrastructure, while also contributing to the frontend using React and TypeScript when an initiative calls for broader ownership.
This position is well suited to an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems rather than working within a narrowly defined area of the codebase. You’ll influence architectural decisions, translate product requirements into technical solutions, and remain involved throughout the lifecycle of the systems you build.
From designing a new service to seeing it through production, you’ll have responsibility for the performance, reliability, and continued evolution of the technology you own.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and maintain backend services, APIs, and application components supporting core financial and product functionality.
Take ownership of large-scale engineering projects, from requirements gathering and technical planning through development, launch, and ongoing improvements.
Develop and manage integrations with third-party APIs, vendors, technology providers, and external platforms.
Contribute to decisions around application architecture, database structures, service boundaries, and engineering standards.
Work closely with frontend and mobile engineers to deliver cohesive end-to-end product experiences.
Investigate and resolve issues related to system performance, scalability, availability, and reliability.
Improve engineering practices through automated testing, observability, logging, monitoring, and other development infrastructure.
Contribute to technical design sessions, peer code reviews, sprint planning, incident response, and broader engineering initiatives.
Act as a technical leader on backend-focused initiatives, helping guide implementation decisions and maintain strong engineering standards.
Make pragmatic technical decisions that address immediate product needs while creating a foundation capable of supporting future growth.
Qualifications & Experience
6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant backend development.
Strong hands-on experience developing production applications with Python; Django experience is a strong plus.
Experience building REST APIs, backend services, data models, and systems designed to scale.
Professional experience working with PostgreSQL and AWS.
Working knowledge of modern frontend technologies, particularly React and TypeScript.
Experience developing or supporting distributed, cloud-native, and highly available applications.
Ability to independently take a project from an initial technical concept through architecture, implementation, deployment, and production ownership.
Strong grasp of software architecture and engineering principles surrounding scalability, reliability, maintainability, and system performance.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or another relevant technical discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
Compensation
Base Salary: $220,000 – $250,000
Total Compensation: Competitive base salary + equity + comprehensive benefits
